Another Day Another Blizzard

For a calm ass December, January sure is ripping the shit out of Toronto.

Forget the great white of 1999, 2004 is the year people will talk about from now on when they think back to bad winter blizzards.

The storm we’re enduring this week is being called the worst white out since that infamous snowfall in 1999 that brought the army to town to help dig us out.

As much as 10 centimetres of snow had fallen by Tuesday morning since it began on Monday, while drifts flooded the air thanks to winds that reached 60 kilometres an hour.

And it looks like we could get as much as another 10 centimetres before the storm bids us adieu late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

That has city crews working hard, trying to push back the tide of the cold white stuff with plows and salters. But it's a standoff battle, because as soon as they're finished clearing, much of it is back.

And despite their work, driving conditions are less than stellar. Motorists are urged to leave for work ahead of schedule to give themselves lots of time to get in or hop on public transit and leave the car behind.

And air travellers are also in for some hurdles in their journey, as Pearson Airport reported some delays and cancellations Tuesday morning. If you’ve got a flight booked, check with your airline before you make your way to the airport and give yourself lots of time to get there. You can also see how things are doing there at www.gtaa.com.

And remember: Monday is Groundhog Day. Hopefully, the furry creature won’t see his shadow and spring will be here before we know it. If that is, the little critter can burrow his way out of the hole through all that snow.

Not to mention Downtown Toronto suffered another Blackout ... this time IN THE BLIZZARD!!

So you’ve slogged to work in the terrible weather and you made it in, despite the snow. The worst of your day is over right? Wrong. Not if you work in the downtown core of Toronto. A huge power blackout has hit a wide area of the city, after a substation failure near Bay and Queen.

Crews had taken one set of circuits out for maintenance when another that was feeding customers failed, too. That left everybody from Queen St north to College and University east to Victoria in the dark. Among those affected: City Hall and Toronto Police Headquarters. Some hospitals are also affected, although they have emergency reserves.

The subway is running normally, but shuttle buses are running along the routes as a precaution. Stations including Queen’s Park , St. Patrick, Osgoode, Queen, Dundas and College on the Yonge-University line have emergency lighting on, but the trains are moving.

Hydro One explains it endured the equipment failure at its Terawley Substation around 11am and lost about 160,000 to 170,000 megawatts of load. The good news it’s not that serious. The bad is it’s likely going to be sometime in the mid-afternoon before the power is back on.

Officials don’t believe the weather played any role in the blackout. But for some, it's a signal to leave early. Because for them, there's no power, there's no heat - and there's no point.

Motha fucka stooooooooop snowing!!! And warm the hell up. While ur at it, send me money the bill collectors are getting vex.

2 updates in 1 day??!!!

This is only a minor update. An addition if yooo weeeeell. Just so y'all can find this:

It's the only thing working in the stills show section this month. I just made it. Drool over it. Lucky u people still come to this dinosaur of a n8 Blog. Now read the previous post as it was long and it is lonely with no comments.

What is Atom?

Atom is one name for two things: It's both a new standard for developers, as well as a syndication format or "feed" for your blog. When a regularly updated site such as a blog has a feed, people can subscribe to it using software for reading syndicated content called a "newsreader." People like using readers for blogs because it allows them to catch up on all their favorites at once. Like checking email—without the SPAM.

It's about friggin time Blogger got the RSS feeds going ... only problem they don't work so well. Or I'm just dumb. Who knows.

I made my own super home page that basically only contains shitloads of rss feeds. It's like a big ass newspaper for me. Anyways, I put this feed in and it .. well sucked. It showed the right headlines .. no descriptions and the links??? go to nowhere!

Well it's probably cuz the news feeder I altered was made by some genius 12 year old back in 2001. I bet he's got a better job than me now.

Too bad Blogger is so convoluted with their help. Now I have to go figure out a news feeder that works with their unknown newbie company. For a damn company that got bought by Google ... they sure don't spend ANY money. Don't tell me to change ... cuz let me REPEAT .. This is NOT my blog. It's my sort of blog. I sorta just like testing Blogger crap with it. Plus it's so old I can't let it die.

Update u f00 - Bexy Bexy Bexy Bexy ... eees not the blog. Go to n8TV or n8itude or any other stuff for daily blog fun. This actually is just another site that has a bunch of miscellaneous junk. Like the Meagan Good Fan site I launched. I might do a whole series of these unkown urban actresses. I'll probably never update them. or stop when they actually get famous. The downloads and stills shows are only down now cuz the host space holding em got mashed up until Feb. I actually may do 2 more stills shows .. I miss doing those (they use to be main content on this site - which was my class break activities).

The reason I wanted to blog here was cuz of a Toronto reason (oh yeah THAT is what the BLOG part is about ... T.O. hehehe I forgot) uh where was I? This almost killed me when I saw the headline link: Carter returns; Raptors lose ... Trade Carter. How the hell is he #1 vote getter 4 years in a row? Damn Raptors. I hope Jalen whoops Vincrap into shape and they get some of that old fun ball back.

IS IT EVER GOING TO STOP SNOWING????????

I know y'all miss me on AIM. Ya might as well MSN me. AIM is on the slow down.

Sometimes Off The Record has the worst guests. Truely ... most chicks don't know shit about sports, especially the dumbass actresses. I don't know who Brigitte Kingsley is ... but damn she is so sports ignorant. I'm not gonna rant, I have to change the channel she is annoying me too much. The only thing I like about this episode is that they've all said SHIT about 50 times. Every phrase is beeped. it's funny as hell for a nationally syndicated talk show.

This day in T.O.

Caught In Transit

It’s hard to imagine that a 51-year-old man could ever be mistaken for a high school student. But that’s what Toronto Police allege is the impression Emanuel Mendonca tried to make.

He’s in the custody of cops, who have been searching for a suspect that’s been plaguing the T.T.C. since October of last year. Authorities say they’ve been receiving an increasing number of reports about sexual assaults on the system.

A man, wearing make-up and dressed in clothing resembling a high school student, would apparently sidle up to passengers on the Lawrence West bus, traveling from Martin Grove to the Yonge subway, and begin rubbing himself against them. He was finally captured on Monday by T.T.C. security.

Holy Frickity Frack it's Cold

Uncle! If only crying out that word was enough to make Mother Nature loosen her tight grip of miserable weather. But most Toronto residents are saying other words – most of them unprintable – about what’s going on outside their windows.

Snow brought more misery to a city that’s already been besieged by severe and bitter cold, with temperatures plummeting to –21C, accompanied by a wind chill ten degrees below that. Between 5 and 15 centimetres of the frosted flakes are expected to fall between now and Thursday, creating even more trouble for those who were laughing during our double digit temperatures just two weeks ago.

An east wind is intensifying the suffering, which is being caused by an Alberta clipper - fast moving storms that are bringing Arctic conditions with nothing to modify them.

And unless you head south, there's no real escape. The bitter cold is being felt from Manitoba all the way to New Brunswick. And hard as it is to fathom, Thursday is expected to be the coldest day of the winter yet, with wind chills dipping to -35C.

This deep freeze has brought many the equivalent of a weather ice cream headache. Driving has become treacherous, as wind whips the snow to blizzard-like and white-out conditions in some areas. Navigating is slow, and getting worse, with authorities urging all motorists to take it easy if they’re going to get there safely – or better still, stay off the roads altogether.

Still, some are trying to remain optimistic, through their chattering teeth. “You know, you can't have the good without the bad, so … when summer comes, we're going to be double as happy,” figures student Ahmad Obeid.

Others are simply resigned to their fate. “It's like springtime in Alaska, eh?” posits Thomas Giddy. “You have to live with it.”

At least for the next few days. Conditions should moderate somewhat by the weekend, when highs reach a balmy -10C. It's hard to imagine, but after this week, that almost sounds warm.

Go see the downloads section. U should check n8TV and n8itude downloads as well. I have so much cool shit.

Cold As a Motherfcuker

I figured I'd update this a bit. I'm mostly looking for a way to RSS feed Blogger entries. Apparently it was only a feature for Blogger Pro, but then they disbanded Blogger Pro and said they are gonna put the features into the free one, but I haven't seen that yet.

Anyways, I found an RSS hack and it's gonna be a lil project to do this.

So I know this flip flopped between a blog and a IM archive place and what I said last time of a download place. Well it's for sure gonna be a lil download place. My big computer crash a month ago made me never put Trillian on this computer again, and MSN and AIM don't have chat logs .. or at least I can't figure out where they are, so the IM archives may be hard to do. But I'm gonna also add a lil bit to this blog, I'm gonna add a few news tidbits of Toronto news here and there. Mostly just for my amusement. I use to and still will do it on my MSN groups (again mostly for my amusement). But some I sorta want to make public. Well public to other people since I'm snatching news shit anyways.

How much sites do I have??? hahaha well ... [insert Optimus Prime Voice] Roll Call [/insert Optimus Prime Voice] ... n8itude (the big bad e/n site), n8TV (the actual NEW blog), Corkscrew Plancha (the wrestling blog-news-e/n site), The Deviant Art Site. There is also the LJ site and my main company site (which will become a professional web design tutorial, company and portfolio site). Not to mention the various other mini sites (u can find them all at n8TV). So you see why I don't update this dinosaur alot.

But I never want to close this bad boy. It's the genesis of my personal site skills. Ok I've said enough now with the thing I wanted to post:

"Minus 15 degrees Celsius. That was the uncomfortable temperature Saturday afternoon in Toronto. If you think that’s cold, it’s not as cold as it was on Friday – which means we’ve been given a slight reprieve from the deep freeze.

But not much of a reprieve. As the day turns into night, winds are expected to pick up and force down those milder conditions to a bone chilling minus 28 degrees overnight. As a result, the cold weather alert for the city has been extended.

Toronto’s Hostel Services announced the alert on Thursday, to help get the homeless in from the arctic-like conditions, especially for the night. Additional emergency sleeping spaces were immediately set up in city shelters. And for those who refuse to go to shelters, the alert is designed to mobilize various outreach services – like the Anishnawbe Street Patrol – to assist and comfort folks.

As for the forecast, there’s good news and bad. While Environment Canada says temperatures should warm up Sunday, they'll likely drop again on Tuesday or Wednesday."

Oh and since this barely gets hits or comments I'm gonna big up the few people that actually comment here. Bec (who comments all over the intern8), Pjay (who slowly keeps up with the intern8), and Ebony (who probably only knows of this stop on the intern8 super highway).

Robitussin.
